In this OVA, manga author Rohan Kishibe meets editor Minoru Kaigamori after he has bought so much land for research purposes that he is now completely broke and urgently needs an advance. Of course, Minoru is rightly puzzled and expects an explanation. Rohan explains that he claims to have seen a real youkai there – the so-called Mutsukabezaka. This ghost has served as inspiration for his new manga.

His latest work is about the young Naoko, who had an affair with the gardener Gunpei in her rich family’s villa. When she wanted to end it because she was to enter into an arranged marriage, a quarrel ensued, as a result of which Naoko accidentally killed her lover. But although he died almost immediately, blood kept leaking from his body – an apparently never-ending stream that Naoko drank in desperation so that her deed would never see the light of day. Years later, rumours take Rohan to this area. He meets Naoko there and learns that she still collects Gunpei’s blood today and has meanwhile developed a strange obsession …
Annotation:
“Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: Mutsu-kabe Hill” is one of the anime adaptations of the manga “Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai”, next to “The Millionaire’s Village” and “At Confession / The Run”. The OVA was first released with the second manga volume, then on Blu-ray and DVD together with the other three episodes on 25 March 2020.
