Die Welt ist in zwei Teile geteilt. In Zalem, die schwebende Stadt, in der nur die Reichen und Schönen wohnen und in den Bereich unter Zalem, wo der menschliche Abschaum lebt. Das sind Diebe, Invaliden, Gladiatoren, Kopfgeldjäger, Mörder und Cyborgs. Deren einziges Ziel ist es, soviel Geld zusammen zu bekommen, dass sie sich den Zutritt nach Zalem erkaufen können. Aber ein paar vereinzelte Wesen leben dort freiwillig, wie der geniale Mechaniker und Jäger Ido und die schöne Chiren, die nur auf eine Gelegenheit wartet, um wieder ins Paradies zurückkehren zu dürfen. Eines Tages findet Ido die noch brauchbaren Überreste eines Cyborgs – Gally. Er baut sie wieder zusammen, doch schon bald wird Gally von ihrer Vergangenheit eingeholt und offenbart ihr dunkles Geheimnis.

Sinopsis:
Nos encontramos en un futuro lejano e indeterminado donde existen dos mundos: la ciudad flotante donde viven los mejores seres humanos entendidos como una raza superior, y la ciudad de los desperdicios, que es la tierra, donde va a parar toda la basura de la ciudad flotante y donde se encuentran los yonkis, renegados, androides, y el resto de humanos calificados de purria. En el mundo de los desperdicios un doctor y mecánico de cyborgs llamado Ido encuentra una cabeza de androide con cerebro humano a la que llama Alita (Gally) a la que consigue un cuerpo. A partir de ese momento convivirán juntos, casi como padre e hija, pero Alita no recuerda nada de su pasado y en lo más profundo de su ser sabe que está destinada a usar su fuerza y bondad para ayudar a la gente. Alita tiene la apariencia de una jovencita feliz e inocente, y poco a poco irá descubriendo cosas de su pasado que harán que ella intente cambiar las cosas.
