Makoto Naegi is a boy with a special characteristic: he seems to be incredibly lucky. This also ensures that he is accepted by winning a lottery at the highly respected and renowned Hope’s Peak Private Academy. But unfortunately, that’s where his supposed happiness ends, because this elite institution, which gathers the best students from different fields, turns out to be a strange and dangerous place. Monokuma, the principal, is a black and white teddy bear with a split personality and one of the coveted school diplomas that will ensure success in the future can only be obtained if you kill one of your classmates unnoticed. If the murderer is not caught, it will ensure his graduation; all other students will die as well.

The 15 elite high school students, who include super geniuses, super athletes, super idols, gang leaders and computer nerds, are now trapped in school and face difficult decisions. With the stress-resistant Kyouko Kirigiri, Makoto quickly finds a new friend and ally, but among all these real talents, his personal luck doesn’t seem like a means of survival. His classmates realise that they have only two options: either participate in Monokuma’s killing game or live together in school for the rest of their lives. But after a short time, the first student is dead …
