あらすじ

Life on alien planets was a long-cherished dream of mankind, and the ever-growing population on Earth made it a necessity. However, through androids called First Types, Mars was made habitable to the extent that colonization began in 2046. By now, numerous humans live on the planet, together with the second generation of androids, the Second Types.

The policeman Ross Sylibus is transferred from Chicago to Mars to escape a traumatic experience: a robot killed his former partner. Now he is to get a new one in young Naomi Armitage. However, their first meeting is hectic: when she tries to arrest a suspect at the airport, he only leaves behind his gruesome work – the corpse of a famous singer. However, the corpse is a robot, a so-called Third Type, which, different to its predecessors, can hardly be distinguished from a human being.

The killer, René D’anclaude, publicly reveals himself and publishes a list of numerous previously unknown Third Types, even in the highest circles. A brutal hunt begins for these seemingly human androids, and Ross is torn between his work and his dislike of robots. His new and unusual partner Naomi doesn’t make it any easier for him, so his principles are put to the test soon …
