Asobi Asobase (2018)

Leisure time in school is meant for little games, but as always there are different kinds of people and thus different kinds of players … Some don’t like games at all, others just play to win and yet another group is completely oblivious to games. The three girls in the anime adaptation of Rin Suzukawa’s manga “Asobi Asobase” fit into these categories.

Hanako – athletic but a bit of a dunce – plays rock-paper-scissors with Olivia, who is of American descent and pretends to be bad at speaking Japanese in an attempt to appear foreign and cool to her classmates. Their energetic playing irritates the disciplined and ambitious Kasumi. Even though she is really good at all kinds of hand and board games, she came to hate them after being forced to do household chores every time she lost to her sister. Since she needs help with her English, the obvious choice is to ask Olivia to tutor her, but Olivia is still keeping up her ruse … How will this ludicrous story unfold? Follow the three girls as they live their days filled with games and laughter!

Hanako ist sportlich begabt aber etwas einfältig und hat einen seltsamen Sinn für Mode. Als sie mit der amerikanischen Austauschschülerin Olivia in der Klasse »Schere-Stein-Papier« spielt, werden sie von der strebsamen und stets ernsten Kasumi beobachtet, die an sich sehr gut im Spielen von Hand- und Brettspielen jeglicher Art ist. Weil sie jedoch als Kind immer gegen ihre große Schwester verloren hat und anschließend dazu gezwungen wurde, die Hausarbeit zu erledigen, begann sie, jegliche Spiele zu hassen. Kasumi ist wiederum schlecht in Englisch und bittet daher Olivia um Hilfe, die dadurch in Bedrängnis gerät, da sie zwar amerikanischer Abstammung ist und nach außen stets so tut, als spreche sie schlecht Japanisch – in Wahrheit ist sie aber in Japan aufgewachsen und kann gar kein Englisch! Begleite die verrückt-witzigen Geschichten aus dem Schulleben der drei Klassenkameradinnen!

Hanako è abile nello sport, anche se è un po’ ingenua ed ha uno strano senso per la moda. Quando un giorno si ritrova a giocare a sasso-carta-forbice con Olivia, una studentessa in scambio, vengono osservati dalla, sempre seria e ambiziosa, Kasumi, che è di solito molto brava in tutti giochi di mano e giochi da tavolo. Siccome però da bambina ha sempre perso contro sua sorella maggiore e consecutivamente doveva sbrigare lei tutte le faccende di casa, ha iniziato ad odiare ogni tipo di gioco. Kasumi, d’altro canto, non è brava in inglese e chiede a Olivia di aiutarla. Quest’ultima però ha un segreto. Anche se è di origine americana, e fa finta di parlare male il giapponese, in verità e cresciuta in Giappone e non sa una parola d’inglese!
