Pocket Monsters (1997)

Ash Ketchum has only one thing in mind: he wants to become the world’s best Pokémon trainer! Pokémon are small animal-like creatures that can be captured by humans. People who train the powers of their Pokémon and compete in a battle are called Pokémon trainers. Ash soon realises, however, that Pokémon training is not all fun and that he also has some duties towards his little monsters. A practically never-ending adventure begins for Ash.

Banned Episodes:
“018 Beauty and the Beach”:
Apparently, for youth protection reasons, the episode was skipped in the German version and many others of Pokémon. In the USA, the episode was later made up as a “Lost Episode”, but the scene in which James was seen with fake breasts was cut out.

“035 The Legend of Dratini”:
This episode was also not shown in Germany, the USA, and other countries for youth protection reasons. In this episode, several characters are threatened with a gun. Ash catches numerous Tauros in the Safari Zone in this episode.

“038 Electric Soldier Porygon”:
When first broadcasted in Japan, various scenes with explosions (depicted as red and blue flashing) caused several hundred viewers to have epileptic seizures. The broadcast of the series was interrupted for four months after this incident. The episode was never replayed and was not broadcasted abroad. Porygon and his later evolutions have not appeared in the anime since.

“252 The Ice Cave!”:
Jynx’s skin colour and appearance led to accusations of racism against the producers in the USA. Therefore, this episode was not aired in the USA, Germany and other countries using the US version as a template. In the video games and subsequent seasons, Jynx’s skin was subsequently dyed purple.

Ash Ketchum hat nur eines im Sinn: Er möchte der weltbeste Pokemontrainer werden! Pokemon, das sind kleine tierähnliche Wesen, die von Menschen eingefangen werden können. Leute, die die Kräfte ihrer Pokemon trainieren und in einem Kampf messen, werden Pokemontrainer genannt. Schnell merkt Ash jedoch, dass das Pokemontraining nicht nur aus Spaß besteht und er auch einige Pflichten seinen kleinen Monstern gegenüber hat. Ein praktisch unendliches Abenteuer beginnt für Ash.

»018 Beauty and the Beach«:
Scheinbar aus Jugendschutzgründen wurde die Episode in der deutschen und vielen anderen Fassungen von Pokemon übersprungen. In den USA hat man die Folge später als »Lost Episode« nachgeholt, die Szene in der James mit falschen Brüsten zu sehen war wurde jedoch herausgeschnitten.

»035 The Legend of Dratini«:
Auch diese Folge wurde aus Jugendschutzgründen in Deutschland, den USA und einigen anderen Ländern nicht gezeigt. In dieser Episode werden mehrfach Charaktere mit einer Pistole bedroht. Ash fängt in dieser Episode mehrere Tauros in der Safari-Zone.

»038 Electric Soldier Porygon«:
Bei der Erstausstrahlung in Japan verursachten mehrere Szenen mit Explosionen (die als rot-blaues Blinken dargestellt wurden) bei mehreren hundert Zuschauern epileptische Anfälle. Die Ausstrahlung der Serie wurde nach diesem Vorfall für 4 Monate unterbrochen, die Folge nie wiederholt und auch nicht im Ausland ausgestrahlt. Porygon und seine Weiterentwicklungen kamen seitdem nicht mehr im Anime vor.

»252 The Ice Cave!«:
Die Hautfarbe und das Auftreten von Rossana führten in den USA zu Rassismus-Vorwürfen gegen die Produzenten. Deshalb wurde diese Folge in den USA, Deutschland und anderen Ländern, die die US-Fassung als Vorlage benutzen nicht ausgestrahlt. In den Videospielen und in den folgenden Staffeln wurde Rossanas Haut anschließend Lila gefärbt.

En Pueblo Paleta, todos los niños y niñas están fascinados por el mundo de los Pokémon, unas criaturas de diferentes formas y colores que cuentan con unos poderes muy especiales. Ash Ketchum es uno de ellos, un niño de 10 años que sueña con llegar a ser el mejor entrenador Pokémon del mundo, por lo que visita al profesor Oak, una autoridad en la materia. El profesor le informa que lo primero que debe hacer es escoger un Pokémon (hay más de seiscientos). Ash escoge a Pikachu.
