Gekijouban Pocket Monsters: Maboroshi no Pokémon Lugia Bakutan (1999)

For a long time, an old legend has been passed on surrounding the islands of the Orange Archipelago and the Guardian of the Seas, who is said to live there hidden deep under the water. The story foretells that one day the earth will be in great danger because the legendary bird Pokémon Arktos, Zapdos and Lavados will suddenly be torn from their harmonious existence and, with their fight, will unbalance the elemental forces of nature. Only together – so the prophecy goes – can the mysterious Pokémon Lugia, who appears in the heart of a storm, and the mysterious “Chosen One” still prevent the catastrophe.

The Pokémon collector Lawrence is inspired by this ancient legend and wants to bring the three bird Pokémon together to lure Lugia out and capture her. After he puts his plan into action, nature begins to go crazy all over the world and Ash, Misty and Tracey, accompanied by powerful storms, arrive at Shamouti Island just in time, where Ash learns from the island girl Melody – who Misty is a little jealous of – that he is the chosen one from the prophecy who will save the world. Actually, this only refers to a custom of the annual Legends Festival, which has recently been nothing more but a tourist attraction, but this time a real chosen one might really be needed …

Lange erzählen sich die Menschen schon von einer alten Legende rund um die Inseln des Orange-Archipels und den Wächter der Meere, der dort tief unter dem Wasser verborgen leben soll. Die Geschichte besagt, dass die Erde eines Tages in großer Gefahr schweben wird, denn die legendären Vogelpokémon Arktos, Zapdos und Lavados werden plötzlich aus ihrem harmonischen Dasein gerissen und mit ihrem Kampf die Urkräfte der Natur aus dem Gleichgewicht bringen. Nur gemeinsam – so lautet die Prophezeiung – können das geheimnisumwobene Pokémon Lugia, das im Herzen eines Sturmes auftaucht, und der mysteriöse »Auserwählte« dann noch die Katastrophe verhindern.

Der Pokémonsammler Lawrence ist von dieser alten Legende inspiriert und will die drei Vogelpokémon zusammenbringen, um Lugia hervorzulocken und einfangen zu können. Nachdem er seinen Plan in die Tat umsetzt, beginnt die Natur überall auf der Welt verrückt zu spielen und Ash, Misty und Tracey kommen begleitet von mächtigen Stürmen genau zur rechten Zeit bei der Shamouti Insel an, wo Ash vom Inselmädchen Melody – auf die Misty ein klein wenig eifersüchtig reagiert – offenbart wird, das er der Auserwählte aus der Prophezeiung ist, der die Welt retten wird. Eigentlich ist damit nur ein Brauchtum des jährlichen Legendenfestivals gemeint, welches in jüngster Zeit eher zu einer Touristenattraktion verkommen ist, doch dieses Mal könnte wirklich ein echter Auserwählter benötigt werden …
