Shouya Ishida is the class clown and has already made a name for himself among his fellow students and teachers. When the hearing-impaired Shouko Nishimiya comes to his school, it doesn’t take long until he and his group make her out as a new victim for their bullying and increasingly brutal pranks. When another one of Shoukos expensive Cochlea implants “goes missing,” her mother finally demands that something has to be done. Due to the severity of the bullying and the costs for the implants, the teachers and the school administration are in uproar, and a culprit is soon found in Shouya. To escape the bullying, Shouko switches schools again and Shouya, now left and betrayed by his former cronies, is left on his own while he is now the victim of all bullying.

So he grows up, alone and with nothing but hatred for all strangers and those who so willingly stabbed him in the back. But he learned from his mistakes and now tries to make amends for his past misdeeds. He works part-time after school to repay his mother for the costs of Shouko’s implants and he taught himself sign language to officially ask Shouko for forgiveness. The road towards redemption, however, is long and hard – especially if you have never really forgiven yourself …

Shouya Ishida ist der Klassenclown und hat sich bei seinen Mitschülern und Lehrern bereits einen Namen gemacht. Als die hörgeschädigte Shouko Nishimiya an seine Schule wechselt, dauert es also auch nicht lang, bis er und seine Truppe ein neues Opfer für ihre Hänseleien und immer brutaler werdenden Streiche gefunden haben. Als wieder einmal eines von Shoukos teuren Cochlea-Implantaten „verschwindet“, fordert ihre Mutter endlich, dass sich etwas ändert. Durch die Schwere des Mobbings und die Kosten der Implantate sind das Lehrerkollegium und die Schulleitung in Aufruhr versetzt und ein Schuldiger ist schnell gefunden: Shouya. Um dem Mobbing zu entkommen, wechselt Shouko erneut die Schule und Shouya, der von seinen bisherigen Kumpanen verlassen und hintergangen wurde, ist auf sich allein gestellt, während er nun das Opfer jeglichen Mobbings ist.

So wächst er auf, allein und mit nichts als Hass für alle Fremden und jene, die ihm so bereitwillig in den Rücken fielen. Doch er lernte aus seinen Fehlern und versucht nun, seine früheren Untaten wiedergutzumachen: Er arbeitet in Teilzeit neben der Schule, um seiner Mutter die Kosten für Shoukos Implantate zurückzuerstatten und er brachte sich Zeichensprache bei, um Shouko ganz offiziell um Verzeihung zu bitten. Der Weg zur Vergebung ist jedoch lang und steinig – besonders, wenn man sich nie selbst vergeben hat …

Cuando Shouko Nishimiya, que tiene problemas de audición, se cambia a su colegio, no tardan mucho él y su grupo en elegirla como la nueva víctima de sus bromas cada vez más brutales. Cuando uno de sus caros implantes cocleares vuelve a «desaparecer», su madre finalmente exige que algo cambie. Ante la gravedad del acoso y el costo de los implantes, el personal docente y la administración del colegio se ven envueltos en un caos y rápidamente encuentran a un culpable: Shouya. Para escapar del acoso, Shouko vuelve a cambiar de colegio mientras que Shouya, abandonado y traicionado por sus viejos compañeros, se encuentra solo y se vuelve la nueva víctima de dicho acoso.

Así crece, solo y con nada más que odio hacia todos los extraños y los que con tanta facilidad le han apuñalado por la espalda. Pero ha aprendido de sus errores y ahora trata de reparar el daño que ha causado: tiene un trabajo de medio tiempo junto a la escuela para pagarle a su madre por los implantes cocleares y aprende lenguaje de señas de manera autodidacta para disculparse oficialmente con Shouko. Sin embargo, el camino al perdón es largo y pedregoso, especialmente cuando uno no se ha perdonado a sí mismo …

Shouya Ishida est le clown de la classe et s’est déjà fait un nom auprès des professeurs et de ses camarades. Lorsque Shouko Nishimiya, malentendante, rejoint son école, il ne faut pas beaucoup de temps pour que son groupe se trouve une nouvelle victime à harceler et faire ses blagues de plus en plus brutales. Quand l’un des implants cochléaires les plus coûteux de Shouko disparaît à nouveau, sa mère exige enfin que quelque chose soit fait. En raison de l’importance du harcèlement et du coût des implants, le personnel enseignant et la direction trouve vite un coupable : Shouya. Pour échapper au harcèlement, Shouko change une fois de plus d’école. Shouya, abandonné et trahi par ses anciens camarades, se trouve mis à l’écart et mis à la place de la victime harcelée.

C’est ainsi qu’il grandit, seul et rempli de haine pour tous les étrangers et ceux qui lui ont planté un couteau dans le dos. Mais il apprend de ses erreurs et essaie à présent de réparer ses méfaits. Il travaille à temps partiel après les cours pour rembourser l’argent des implants de Shouko à sa mère, et s’apprend lui-même la langue des signes, afin de demander officiellement pardon à Shouko. Le chemin du pardon est long et semé d’embûches, surtout lorsque l’on ne s’est jamais pardonné à soi-même…

Shouya Ishida è il buffone della classe e si è già fatto un nome sia con i propri compagni che con i suoi insegnanti. Quando la ragazzina non udente Shouko Nishimiya si trasferisce nella sua scuola, non ci mettono molto quindi, lui e il suo gruppo di amici, ha trovare una nuova vittima in lei, e ricoprirla di dispetti e scherzi che diventano gradualmente sempre più brutali. Quando «sparisce» per l’ennesima volta uno degli impianti cocleari di Shouko, sua madre finalmente esige una reazione dalla scuola. Il collegio degli insegnanti e la dirigenza scolastica sono in furore a causa della severità del mobbing e i costi degli impianti, cosa che rende facile per loro trovare velocemente un colpevole: Shouya. Per sfuggire al mobbing, Shouko cambia un’altra volta scuola e Shouyo, abbandonato e tradito dai suoi amici, rimane solo, ora che lui è la vittima di ogni tipo di bullismo.

E cresce così, da solo, provando solo odio nei confronti di tutti gli estranei e tutti coloro che gli hanno voltato le spalle così prontamente. Ma impara dai suoi errori e cerca di fare ammenda per i suoi misfatti del passato: lavora part-time nelle vicinanze della scuola per aiutare sua madre a pagare i costi degli impianti di Shouko e imparò da solo il linguaggio dei segni, per poter chiedere ufficialmente perdono a Shouko. La via verso il perdono, però, è lunga e difficile – soprattutto se non si è mai stati in grado di perdonare se stessi …
