L ist eindeutig ein etwas seltsamer und mysteriöser junger Mann und außerdem der Gegenspieler von Kira. Er ist ein großes Genie und weiß immer, was zu tun ist, wobei seine Methoden wie ein Spiel sind, in dem er rundheraus den nächsten Zug aus dem Ärmel wirft. Er ist daher ein sehr bekannter Privatdetektiv, über den man aber nichts weiß, da er weder Identität noch Aussehen von sich preisgibt.

L isst gerne Süßigkeiten – vor allem Kuchen. Zudem ist seine Sitzweise recht interessant, denn L sitzt oft ziemlich lässig da, wobei er seine Knie meist eng an seinen Körper zieht. Er meint, dass er in dieser Position besser nachdenken und Fakten analysieren kann. Eine weitere Angewohnheit von ihm ist es, an seinen Fingernägeln zu knabbern, was er vor allem tut, wenn er am Nachdenken ist.
