BONES Inc. is an animation and production studio founded in October 1998 by the former Sunrise employees Masahiko Minami, Hiroshi Oosaka and Toshihiro Kawamoto and based in the Suginami district of the city of Tokyo.

The studio’s first project was the Cowboy Bebop film released in 2001 in collaboration with Sunrise. Prior to that, some of the founders left the company because they wanted more production freedom.

Bones produced well-known anime series such as “Eureka Seven”, “Soul Eater” and “Fullmetal Alchemist” and is now one of the best-known studios.

In January 2018, the company, together with Production I.G., announced that they were entering into a business alliance with the American streaming provider Netflix.

BONES Inc. ist ein im Oktober 1998 von den ehemaligen Sunrise-Angestellten Masahiko Minami, Hiroshi Oosaka und Toshihiro Kawamoto gegründetes Animations- und Produktionsstudio mit Sitz im Stadtteil Suginami der Stadt Tokyo.

Das erste Projekt des Studios war der 2001 erschienene Cowboy-Bebop-Film, der in Zusammenarbeit mit der Firma Sunrise entstand. Zuvor verließen Gründer die Firma, da sie sich mehr Produktionsfreiheiten wünschten.

Bones produzierte bekannte Animeserien wie »Eureka 7«, »Soul Eater« oder »Fullmetal Alchemist« und gehört mittlerweile zu den bekanntesten Studios.

Im Januar 2018 gab das Unternehmen, zusammen mit Production I.G. bekannt, dass sie mit dem amerikanischen Streaminganbieter Netflix eine Geschäftsallianz eingehen.
