The so-called Abyss is an underground cave system and the last largely unexplored place in this world. No one knows how deep the gigantic earth pit goes, inhabited by all kinds of strange creatures, and where mysterious relics, whose purpose is still unknown to modern man, are found again and again. Many generations of brave adventurers have been sent to the depths of the Abyss, but many have never returned.

In Oosu, a town on the edge of the Abyss, lives the little orphan girl Riko, who always dreamed of becoming a great spelunker and discovering the secrets of the caves just like her mother. One day, on a research trip, she meets a mysterious little boy who eventually turns out to be a robot …

Das unterirdische Höhlensystem namens Abyss ist der letzte weitgehend unerforschte Ort auf dieser Welt. Niemand weiß, wie tief diese gigantische Erdgrube reicht, die von allerhand eigenartigen Kreaturen bewohnt wird und in denen man immer wieder mysteriöse Reliquien, deren Zweck dem heutigen Menschen noch unerschlossen sind, findet. Viele Generationen von tapferen Abenteurern hat es schon in die Tiefen des Abyss verschlagen, doch kehrten viele von dort niemals zurück.

In Oosu, einer Stadt am Rande des Abyss, lebt das kleine Waisenmädchen Riko, die davon träumt, genauso wie ihre Mutter einmal eine große Höhlenforscherin zu werden und den Geheimnissen der Höhlen auf die Spur zu kommen. Eines Tages trifft sie auf einem Forschungsausflug auf einen geheimnisvollen kleinen Jungen, der sich schließlich als Roboter herausstellt …

Un gigantesco pozzo verticale di cui non si conosce la profondità, nascondiglio di strane creature e preziosi cimeli che la civiltà moderna non sa spiegare. Il mistero rappresentato dall’Abisso affascina la razza umana, e molti avventurieri hanno lanciato la loro sfida alla voragine. A loro, è stato dato il nome di «cercatori». La giovane orfana Riko vive nella città di Orth, costruita sulle fortune dell’Abisso, e sogna di diventare un giorno una grande cercatrice come la madre. Un giorno, mentre si addestra sul ciglio dell’Abisso, trova un robot straordinariamente simile a un essere umano … La loro avventura inizia qui!
