Ichigo est un adolescent comme les autres, exception faite qu’il peut voir les fantômes. Pour autant, il est loin de s’imaginer l’existence des Shinigami et de la Soul Society… Aussi, quand Rukia débarque dans sa vie, toute de kimono vêtue et qu’elle lui annonce qu’elle a pour mission d’arrêter les Hollow (esprits malfaisants), Ichigo a du mal à la croire. Mais les choses se compliquent lorsqu’un Hollow les attaque. Gravement blessée, Rukia n’a pas d’autre choix que de transférer une partie de ses pouvoirs de Shinigami à Ichigo pour vaincre cet esprit malfaisant. Sauf que ce dernier lui aspire tous ses pouvoirs …
